Alan Rabold

I started my photographic journey after completing a master’s degree in painting. As I became a Zen practitioner after many years of art classes, I discovered a newfound visual awareness of my immediate environment. Photography became a wonderful way to appreciate and capture our endlessly fascinating world. I started a teaching position in photography at Evergreen High School in the early 1980's as a livelihood choice that turned into an immense love of teaching photographic technique and visual awareness to young people. I was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1985. During that time I also presented several shows of my work in the Boulder/ Denver area.  My photographs are in several private collections as well the Denver Art Museum. I left Evergreen High School after 18 years of teaching and moved to Oxford England for two years, where I studied photography at Oxford Brookes University and had a one man show of my work at Magdalen College, Oxford University. When I returned to the U.S. I began a new position as photography instructor at Standley Lake H.S. for eight years. During this time I also began teaching Miksang photography classes {contemplative seeing} to adults at the Boulder Shambhala Center, and held a three month photo workshop with ‘Out Boulder' teens that concluded with an exhibit at the Boulder Trident coffee shop. More recently I have taught photography for 8 years at New Vista H.S in Boulder and now I am a meditation instructor for the Buddhist Psychology program at Naropa University. Alan Rabold
